| PSYCHEDELIC
WRASSE JUVENILE Anampses chrysocephalus Randall, 1958 Tiny juveniles this species are quite common in the summer, especially on O`ahu's north shore. They swim erratically and can be so small it's hard to figure out what they are. Really tiny ones appear bisected by a light bar down the center of the body (top photo).. Note the false eyespot near the tail of the slightly older fish in the picture immediately below. In a few weeks it will begin developing the bright red tail that distinguishes adult females, at which point it will be easier to identify. Photos: Pupukea, O`ahu. 30 ft. |
