| MOORING
LINE GOBY Bryaninops amplus Larson, 1985 (GORGONIAN GOBY) Through most of its Indo-Pacific range this small goby lives most commonly on gorgonian sea whips. In Hawai`i, however, where these soft corals do not occur, it is usually seen on wire corals and sometimes long, thin manmade objects like permanent mooring lines. It is similar and slightly larger than the more common Wire Coral Goby, B. yongei. The upper half of its body is transparent except for seven faint orange bars. The lower half of the body is orange to reddish. There is a bright internal line along the spinal column. It grows to about 2 inches. Indo-Pacific. Photo: Mäkua, O`ahu. 100 ft. |
