PHRIKOCEROS? sp 4
Cory Pittman and Pauline Fiene found this striking orange flatworm in
Halimeda and rubble off Ka`anapali, Maui in April 2007, somewhere between
25 ft and 45 ft. Although in color it closely resembles Phrikoceros
baibaiye Newman & Cannon 1996b, that species is specifically stated
to lack the white dots on the margin exhibited by this animal. Another
candidate is Phrikoceros #3 from Newman and Cannon's book and CD,
which they state occurs in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Hawai`i. However,
their one photo of #3 (taken in Bali, Indonesia) has a very distinct,
clearly delineated bright red margin, and their verbal color description
echoes this. So that does not appear to be it. Phrikoceros
#1 on this site has distinct white pseudotentacles, so that is not
it either.
