Pseudobiceros
hymanae
Newman & Cannon, 1997.
Halona Blowhole, O`ahu. 20 ft.
Note how close in color this is to Pseudobiceros
periculosus.
More confusion: a photo of this flatworm swimming appears
on p. 78 of Hawaii's Sea Creatures. Dr. Leslie Newman identified the photo
as Pseudobiceros gloriosus because P. hymanae had not yet
been described. A larger photo of the true P. gloriosus,
taken outside Hawai`i by Leslie Newman & Andrew Flowers, appears beneath
it. The Hawaiian record of gloriosus was made based on the photo
of the swimming animal, which we now know was misidentified. Most likely
P. gloriosus does not occur in Hawai`i.
