Note that this worm has a pair of true tentacles in the head region. Newman & Cannon's color description: "Background body colour brown, gray to black. Marginal band wide, inner band orange, outer band white. Sometimes with only a black median area. Head tentacles conspicuous, orange with white."

This is a common worm in much of its range. It can be somewhat variable in appearance. Known from Mozambique to Hawai`i.
