BICOLOR CHUB color variant
Kyphosus hawaiiensis Sakai & Nakabo, 2004
The common Gray Chub (Kyphosus sandwicensis) sometimes displays yellow or white patches, and a few individuals are entirely yellow, but I had never seen a similar color variation in the endemic Hawaiian Bicolor Chub until Renae Shepler sent me the above photo of one she saw while snorkeling at Hideaways Beach on Kauai in August of 2018. There's always something new under the sea. Thanks Renae!
